I’d like to begin with an awesome quote by Maya Angelou from her book “Mom & Me & Mom:
“I will look after you and I will look after anybody you say needs to be looked after, any way you say. I am here. I brought my whole self to you. I am your mother.”
There are 10 million single mother-lead families in the United States alone. 46% millennial and 44% GenXers say“Marriage is becoming obsolete.” Today, women between the ages of 18 to 29, value parenthood far more than marriage.
From the looks of it, Single moms are overwhelmingly doing it all alone! Single mothers earn incomes that place them well below a mother who is married in the income ladder, yet they maintain their household expenses and raise their children.
Here are some additional statistics on single mothers:
More educated millennials are having babies outside of marriage. Of millennial moms who have babies outside of marriage, 67% have some college education, and 32% have four or more years of higher education.
Older single mom statistics (2007-2012):
48% jump in births to unmarried women aged 35-39
29% jump in births to unmarried moms aged 40-44
Single moms' education and income:
58% of single moms have attended college or have at least a bachelor’s degree
49% of custodial parents have child support agreements (informal or formal), but only 45% received all child support owed.
We rarely get a chance to highlight these hard-working queens, so we wanted to make special tribute to the brave mothers who don’t give up.
We would like to wish ALL mothers a very Happy Mother’s Day!
