Change of Ownership for the 30-year American Animated Family "The Simpsons"

Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox is the beginning of a truly uncanny blended family of the different pop culture icons. This acquisition was said to be predicted 19 years ago.

Al Jean, the showrunner of The Simpsons, celebrated the change in ownership on Tuesday with a tweet showing the first meeting between Disney mascot Mickey Mouse and Fox’s own Homer and Bart Simpson.

Spoiler alert: It went about as well as you’d expect (meaning not good at all). There were positive feedback for this decision, but of course, a couple fans of The Simpsons were dragging the Disney for this merge on twitter. The merger means that The Simpsons will become a Disney-owned property. TV Insider says The Simpsons will continue to air on Fox Corporation’s Fox Broadcasting Company.

The Walt Disney Company, commonly known as Walt Disney or simply Disney is an American diversified multinational mass media and entertainment conglomerate headquartered at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California. It is the worlds largest independent media conglomerate in terms of revenue, ahead of NBC Universal and Warner Media, which are owned by telecommunications giants Comcast and AT&T respectively.

The Walt Disney Company was founded on October 16, 1923 by brothers Walt and Roy O. Disney as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio; it officially changing its name to The Walt Disney Company in 1986. The company established itself as a leader in the American animation industry before diversifying into live-action film production, television, and theme parks.

Since the 1980s, Disney has created and acquired corporate divisions in order to market. The Simpsons is an American animated sitcom created by Matt Groening for The Fox Broadcasting Company. The series is a satirical depiction of working-class life, epitomized by the Simpson family, which consists of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. The show is set in the fictional town of Springfield and parodies American culture and society, television, and the human condition.

The family was conceived by Groening shortly before a solicitation for a series of animated shorts with producer James L. Brooks. Groening created a dysfunctional family and named the characters after his own family members, substituting Bart for his own name. The shorts became a part of The Tracey Ullman Show on April 19, 1987. After three seasons, the sketch was developed into a half-hour prime time show and became Fox's first series to land in the Top 30 ratings in a season (1989–90).

Since its debut on December 17, 1989, 656 episodes of The Simpsons have been broadcast. It is the longest-running American sitcom, and the longest-running American scripted primetime television series in terms of seasons and number of episodes. The Simpsons is on its thirtieth season, which began airing September 30, 2018. The Simpsons was renewed for a thirty-first and thirty-second season on February 6, 2019, in which the latter will contain the 700th
episode.
