Recently, the 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss named one of their tanks The Rock, after actor and producer Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. It's no surprise that Dwayne is known for his action movies and wrestling matches for his size and strength. It was confirmed on Friday that the Blackhawk Squadron decided to name the vehicle after Dwayne.
Last week, the 1st Armored Division tweeted "Shoutout to the #IronSoldiers assigned to the @Blackhawk_SQDN for naming one of their tanks in homage to the @TheRock. Hopefully the 'People's Champ' will see it and give you guys a shoutout and a retweet! #TuesdayThoughts"
Dwayne responded on Instagram: "I’m sending a salute of respect & gratitude to the Blackhawk Squadron US 1st Armored Division for the honor of naming their tank (the most advanced in the world) Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson. "Heavy duty, bad a--, sexy AF and built to take care of business — but most importantly, thank you all for your service. Grateful to the bone."
As of Monday afternoon, the Instagram photo had received more than 2 million likes. Thousands of people commented on the post. Many fans congratulated the actor while other fans did not like what was cooked up with this homage.
According to the El Paso Times, this is pretty common for Army divisions to give tanks special names. Earlier this year, Fort Bliss drew attention for its tank called "Dropped as a Baby." As of Monday afternoon, Dwayne has not commented on social media about the backlash.
