How To Help A Heartbroken Friend

Written by: Sumeet Manohare @accidental_blogger

Being heartbroken has to be one of the most painful feelings in life. During such situations one can be so much affected that he/she can have long lasting effects in their life. In this phase of life, all that a person needs is support from closed ones.

If you have a friend who's having a hard time going through a bad breakup, you can always lend a supporting hand to them. Most of the time people hide their pain & choose to suffer in silence, but it can be destructive.

Here are few ways you can help your friend to feel better

1. Maintain Contact With Them : You should try to stay in contact with them, check up on them. No, you don't have to ping them every hour, it can be irritating. Just ensure that they feel your presence & don't feel too lonely. Try sharing jokes, memes or talk about random stuff.

2. Listen To Them : Once your friend is comfortable he/she will want to talk about what's on their mind. And all you have to do is just listen to them. Don't give any opinions or advice or interrupt them. Listen to all that is inside their head.

3. Share Neutral Opinion : Most of the people give biased advice in such situations. Even though this might feel like you're making your friend feel good, it's unhealthy. Don't go on blaming or accusing their partner, even if they are doing the same. Instead look at the situation from both perspectives.

4. Remind Them Of Their Priorities : Often people forget their own priorities in situations like breakups or separation. If you really want to help your friend, remind them of their priorities. Be it about their career, education, fitness or hobbies. This will help your friend to realize that he/she has a life outside the failed relationship & it can't be ignored.

However, there are some people who like to deal with their problems without any help. These people are strong enough to suffer alone & get over it on their own.

And you shouldn't ever force someone with your help.
