Are You Making Love to a Memory?

“The ones who do the most in the beginning, end up wasting your time”~ Unknown

Here you are, 3 months into a hot and heavy romance with your new boo. Suddenly, the response time to texts get longer, the time away from each other gets longer and the long conversations begin to get shorter.

It is a fact that we tend to be our “best selves” when we first meet anyone, and that has never been truer in terms of relationships. We meet someone and they smell good, are always nice, always available and the heat is turned up so hot that it could put an oven to shame. Then it falls flat.

My question is do we still hold on? Believing that what we saw in the beginning was real or do we back off with an understanding that we may have been duped? Is it dishonest to show someone a “better” version of ourselves upfront? Or, should we always keep the same speed and energy from the beginning. And if we do stay after the flames have died down are we only staying in the shadow of a memory we once knew?
